We tend to focus on large pieces of garbage floating in the ocean or washed up on the shore.

Just as problematic, or perhaps even more problematic, are the microplastics that break down into smaller pieces as they float in the ocean.

As the name suggests, microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic waste that are small enough to be formed into the mouths of small sea creatures.

These microplastics also threaten the lives of small creatures.
It also affects the organisms that humans eat, affecting human health over a long period of time.

In order to reduce this impact, an event was started to collect microplastics washed up on the beach.
It's plastic drying.

Plastic hutch harvesting took place simultaneously in various parts of Japan and around the world.

▼ The work is done by putting beach sand into a sieve like this and sifting it.

▼This is the amount of plastic that gets mixed in with just one sift.

And in just a few hours, this amount of microplastics accumulates.

If this trash was found on beaches around the world...
It was a great event that really made me think about how I spend my days.

What we can do is to reduce our daily waste even a little. To that end, we would like to work to popularize the use of personal bottles, which are not disposable containers.
